Fire and smoke

Any potter loves a bit of fire and smoke... not in an electric kiln though...

this week I had a sawdust firing of some pigs and other small pieces for my exhibition in August...

Here is a taste...

video
it worked quite well though some slipped sideways and I had to top up the fire at one stage with a bit more fuel...

I will show you more when the mini installation is on show...

Have a good week and thanks for stopping by...

Swimming Penguin swims away

I am absolutely thrilled that my "Swimming Penguin" has been purchased by a collector of Australian Studio Pottery.
"Swimming Penguin"  now has a new home where he will be appreciated and be amongst other studio works.

He is quite small, being approximately 14cm long and about 7.5cm wide.

I might make some more one day but not this week as there are pigs to be glazed...

Beginning to get close to exhibition

a fairly cloudy day in Sydney today... good conditions for taking photos of sculptures.

My friend and I will be preparing our exhibition advertising so that was my task for today...
I am not a great photographer but with some reasonable equipment such as a tripod, digital camera and a roll of paper it wasn't too difficult..

Little Blue Pourer

Fingers crossed for some fine weather tomorrow as I will be doing a market at the village of Bundeena in the Royal National Park...
It will be an extra long drive as the shortest way is a road that crosses a weir and the roads authority tells me it is flooded... ah well only another 15mins down the other road.

This little pouring vessel will be staying behind... it might go to another market or perhaps to a small design and homewares store..

The blue glaze is a tricky one... it needs to be applied thickly to get the colour and sparkle but too thick and it will run off the pot and onto the kiln shelf...  I'm fairly happy with this one.

Have a nice weekend... a holiday Monday here in NSW so I hope to get back to the studio...
